Defensive midfielder on his way to the Emirates Stadium?
Sky Sports understands that Arsenal have moved into pole position for Argentine international Lucas Biglia.
The 25-year-old Anderlecht player has long been on Arsene Wenger’s radar, even from when he first moved to Brussels back in 2006.
Biglia has progressed well in recent seasons and now a number of Europe’s top clubs are chasing his signature.
Real Madrid and Inter Milan are amongst the clubs who are keen on Biglia, along with a number of Premier League sides.
But now with Alex Song’s future far from certain with Barcelona looking to snap him up, Sky Sports understands Arsenal have returned to the Biglia option.

Arsenal have previously been linked with interest in Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia but now it would appear that the speculation could lead to an actual bid for the Argentine international. With Arsene Wenger admitting that Alex Song could leave for Barcelona there would be an increased need for a defensive midfielder and the 25 year old is at the top of the Gunners wish-list as a replacement for the Cameroonian.
Whilst Biglia is by no means a household name he is very much the type of player Arsene Wenger is known for targeting, i.e. a player with potential who is currently plying his trade for a club he may well have outgrown.
Biglia joined Anderlecht six years ago and has been a consistent force in the Brussels based side’s midfield, racking up over 250 appearances in all competitions and securing three domestic titles. His form helped force a spot in the Argentine national team set-up last year and clearly a high-profile move would further the chances of process on the international stage.
Arsenal do not have a great many steely midfielders to call upon, indeed Song himself has grown into a more complete player who is now more well known for his assist-making abilities than his tough tackling. Emmanuel Frimpong is perhaps not ready for a regular run in the Gunners first team and a move for Biglia will presumably not be an expensive one.
Wenger has already forked out over £35m to bring in Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla but whereas they all complement the attacking third the Arsenal manager is now looking to strengthen the defensive area of his North London side’s squad.
