QPR badboy nearing France switch.
French club Marseille are closing in on a surprise deal for QPR badboy Joey Barton, reports the BBC.
The Ligue 1 outfit have approached the Hoops about signing Barton on a loan for the coming season and it is understood that the 29-year-old is open to the move.
Barton’s future at Loftus Road is increasingly uncertain after the club failed to issue him with a squad number for the coming season.
His number 17 shirt was handed to new signing Ryan Nelsen, who joined from Tottenham.
Barton is due to serve a 12-game ban when the season starts, after violently clashing with several Manchester City players on the final day of last season.
It is unclear whether the former Newcastle midfielder would face a similar ban if he moved to France but Barton was refused permission by the Football League to join minnows Fleetwood Town because the loan move would have significantly sped up the serving of his suspension.
Barton dropped a major hint on twitter as to his likely destination, signing off on Thursday with: “Early night for me people. Bonne nuit …”
The Liverpudlian has already been stripped of the QPR club captaincy and excluded from the R’s pre-season tour of Malaysia, in a turbulent summer so far.
