Sky Sports understands that Arsenal have moved into pole position for Argentine international Lucas Biglia.
The 25-year-old Anderlecht player has long been on Arsene Wenger’s radar, even from when he first moved to Brussels back in 2006.
Biglia has progressed well in recent seasons and now a number of Europe’s top clubs are chasing his signature.

The departure of Alex Song to Barcelona, though not totally unexpected, is a blow to Arsenal. Whilst the sale of Robin Van Persie was perhaps on the cards due to the Dutchman only having a year left to run on his Gunners contract, the Cameroon international was tied to the North London club until 2015 and as such there was no real imperative to sell the 24 year old other than his apparent interest in moving to the Nou Camp.
Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin is now being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and a season long loan deal could help the Turkish international re-start a career that is stagnating at the Bernabeu whilst simultaneously offering Arsenal a fresh creative option.
Sky Sports believe that Arsenal are also closing in on Argentine international Lucas Biglia, a player who could ably replace Song and give Arsene Wenger some much needed steel in the centre of the park.
Though the 25 year old has been plying his trade in the relatively average Belgian top tier for six years, this has not prevented him from being called up by his national team and he could prove a relatively inexpensive replacement for the Barcelona bound midfielder.
Though Arsenal have spent around £35m to bring in Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla, that outlay has been more than covered by the sales of Van Persie and Song and as such further moves in this summer’s transfer window do seem plausible, and are all the more likely following the Gunners average opening day display that resulted in a disappointing goalless draw with Sunderland.
