Serie A side turn down Etihad Stadium offer.
Vincenzo Montella remains hopeful that Stevan Jovetic will remain at Fiorentina after reports in Italy suggested the club had turned down an offer from Manchester City for the forward.
According to the La Nazione, City sent scouts to Florence on Saturday to see Jovetic captain the Viola to a 2-0 Coppa Italia win against Novara.
Jovetic, 22, has been linked heavily with Juventus throughout the summer and earlier this month president Andrea Della Valle revealed the club had “turned down an offer” of €25 million for Jovetic which was believed to be from the Bianconeri.
La Nazione further claims City made an offer following Saturday’s game but that it was rejected immediately.
Roberto Mancini is desperate to spend this summer and would seemingly like to add to his sole capture of the transfer window, that of Jack Rodwell, but on this occasion he may not manage to succeed in his efforts.
Stevan Jovetic is maturing into a very accomplished attacker and is a player who appears happy to remain at a Fiorentina side who have experienced some lean periods of late and Artemo Franchi side will do well to fend off interest in the Montenegrin international.
The Florence side have invested in some impressive signings this summer with the likes of Alberto Aquilani, Mounir El Hamdaoui and David Pizarro from Roma among others. Vincenzo Montella will want to keep Jovetic but one wonders what development such a deal would take if Man City made a much increased offer.
The 22 year old netted 14 goals in 27 Serie A appearances last term.
