Turk to replace Song at Emirates.
Nuri Sahin will complete his protracted loan transfer to Arsenal in the next 24 hours after Barcelona confirmed the signing of Alex Song in a £15m deal.
Turkish international Sahin has been told he can leave Real Madrid this summer but the Spanish giants are reluctant to lose the 23-year-old permanently.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and AC Milan were all interested in Sahin but the midfielder has rejected moves to both White Hart Lane and Anfield, while the Italians were only interested in a permanent transfer.
He will join Arsenal on a season-long loan deal and it is though the Gunners will have the option to buy the combative pass-master next summer.
Sahin made just 4 La Liga appearances for Real last season and has been used as an auxiliary left-back by head-coach Jose Mourinho in pre-season.
The former Borussia Dortmund star caught the eye of Europe in the 2010/11 season with a series of stunning displays as Jurgen Klopp’s side claimed the Bundesliga title.
But Sahin has struggled to force his way into Real’s star-studded team, amid competition from the likes of Xabi Alonson, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira, and the imminent arrival of Tottenham’s Luka Modric is only likely to decrease his chances further.
It is understood that Liverpool held talks with the Turk but Sahin wants to play Champions League football next term and has therefore opted to join the Gunners.
