Serie A side want Old Trafford back-up forward.
Italian source Gazzetta Dello Sport today reports that Fiorentina are ready to make a move for want-away Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The Serie A side are willing to pay up to €4.5m (£3.55m) for the 31 year old forward, a bid that may well get short shrift from Sir Alex Ferguson who is looking for a much higher return on a player that cost the club a record £30.75m four years ago. The Bulgarian international had already fallen down the Man United pecking order before Robin Van Persie’s arrival from Arsenal seemingly all but ended his first team hopes.
In 2010/11 Berbatov finished as joint top scorer in the Premier League but was then left out of that season’s Champions League final as Man United lost to Barcelona at Wembley. Last term the former Tottenham man was handed just five Premier League starts and there seems little chance of the stylish forward pushing past the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and the aforementioned Van Persie so a move away from Old Trafford could well be on the cards.
Dimitar Berbatov has a year to run on his current contract.
