Bosnian could be a Spurs player by Sunday.
Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Roma playmaker Miralem Pjanic and the Bosnian could be a Spurs player before the end of the week, reports Corriere dello Sport.
With Luka Modric set to join Real Madrid, Spurs head-coach Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to add creativity to his midfield.
The Portuguese has admitted interest in his compatriot Joao Moutinho but it is understood Spurs are unwilling to meet Porto’s £25m valuation of the star.
Villas-Boas has identified Pjanic, 22, as a cheaper alternative to Moutinho and believes the Bosnia and Herzegovina international will fit comfortably into his preferred 4-3-3 system.
After a spell in France with both Metz and Lyon, Pjanic joined Roma for £9m last August and went onto to make 30 Serie A appearances for the Rome club.
But it is understood that the Stadio Olympico club are willing to sell Pjanic if Spurs meet their £14m asking-price.
