White Hart Lane boss ready to trim expansive squad.
Tottenham began a mass clear-out of fringe players today by selling defender Sebastien Bassong to Norwich City.
It is the first of a number of sales Spurs hope to conclude before the transfer window closes next week as David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas and Giovani Dos Santos are also available, while the futures of Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone at White Hart Lane are in doubt as well.
Spurs have been trying to off-load Bentley, Jenas and Dos Santos permanently for the last few transfer windows but have only succeeded in sending them out on loan.
They still hope to find a buyer for the trio, who cost £26.7million between them, by the end of the month, while Danny Rose is also set to leave on loan with Sunderland hoping to sign him.

It appears that Andre Villas-Boas is keen to conduct a clear-out at White Hart Lane as the Portuguese boss looks to put his own stamp on the North London club’s squad.
Centre back Sebastien Bassong has already completed his move to Carrow Road and by all accounts Michael Dawson is close to completing a move to ambitious QPR. Villas-Boas has already brought in Jan Vertonghen to strengthen his defence and the emergence of youngster Steven Caulker may have given the former Blues boss the freedom to offload a couple of defenders.
David Bentley has proved to be something of a disaster since his £16.5m move to Tottenham from Blackburn Rovers and loan spells at Birmingham City and West Ham have failed to kick-start the 27 year old winger’s career and a move away from the club would probably be best for all concerned and chairman Daniel Levy would probably be happy to get a quarter of the fee they paid four years ago.
Jermaine Jenas and Tom Huddlestone have fallen down the midfield pecking order and have failed to impress Villas-Boas in pre-season and it seems that outright sales would be preferable at this juncture as Tottenham look to accrue funds that Villas-Boas may well wish to use to bring in further additions.
Giovani dos Santos on the other hand did appear to play his way back into the new boss’s plans having performed excellently at the 2012 Olympics, helping his Mexico side to a Gold medal. However if an offer is made for the former Barcelona man then perhaps he too will be on his way.
Will Tottenham fear the loss of any of these squad players or can they all be offloaded to the highest bidder?
