Full-back wants to move back to Scotland.
Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton wants to re-join former club Rangers – despite the fact the Gers now play their football in the Scottish Third Division.
Scotland international Hutton has been told to find a new club by Villains boss Paul Lambert and it is understood that the 27-year-old wants to move back to north of the border.
Hutton reluctantly joined Tottenham at the third time of asking from Rangers in 2008, after twice insisting he wanted to remain with the Glasgow club.
The flying right-back never settled in north London and was sold last summer to Aston Villa to be reunited with ex-Gers boss Alex McLeish.
Despite his manager’s influence, Hutton struggled to bed-down in the Midlands and McLeish’s sacking has seen him slip down the pecking order at Villa Park.
It is thought that Hutton is not interested in joining another Premier League club and wants to move his family back to Glasgow.
As a boyhood Rangers fan, Hutton would never play for Glasgow rivals Celtic and it is understood he has been in touch with Gers’ boss Alex McLeish about a dramatic return to Ibrox.
Hutton is open to taking pay cut to re-join the club but is hopeful a package can be agreed.
After severe financial problems, Rangers were forced to re-form and have started afresh in the Scottish Third Division.
