Rodgers dismissed Adam exit rumours.
Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam will not be leaving Anfield this summer according to manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Scotland international struggled for form and fitness last season after being signed for £7m last July by former boss Kenny Dalglish.
Adam has seen his place threatened by the arrival of Joe Allen and the return of Joe Cole and the stylish left-footer has been linked with a sensational switch to Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton.
Rodgers insists that these rumours are wide of the mark and says he is a long-term admirer of the former Rangers playmaker.
“Charlie was brought in for a lot of money after a terrific time at Blackpool,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.
“Last season was a wee bit broken in terms of injury but he has trained well in pre-season and will play against Hearts [in tonight’s Europa League qualifier].
“He’s a talent – everyone knows that – and he played well in the last Scotland game.
“You never forecast anyone’s career and all I can talk about is the here and now. At the minute he’s working hard and looking to fight for a place.
“I actually tried to buy Charlie when I was manager of Reading so where these stories come from, I don’t know.”
