Etihad Stadium side try their luck with offer for Stamford Bridge star.
Manchester City have turned their attention to Chelsea defender David Luiz after being frustrated in their attempts to bring Daniel Agger to the Etihad Stadium.
City boss Roberto Mancini has stepped up his search for a new defender after Micah Richards was ruled out for 10 weeks.
The club were already lacking defensive cover before Richards picked up an ankle injury at the Olympics, and after several bids for Agger were rejected by Liverpool, they have now had a £30million bid turned down by Chelsea for Brazilian international Luiz
The 25-year-old was left out Chelsea’s squad for Wednesday night’s 4-2 win over Reading, with the player citing a knee injury as the reason on his Twitter account.
The player has been fined for his use of the social networking site to break the news of his injury. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo said: ‘This social media thing is all around us now. We’ll deal with it internally.’

Surely any offer from Man City of a Chelsea defender would be given short shrift by the West London side. Indeed the initial offer has apparently been turned down by Roman Abramovich but what if a bigger offer was made?
Clearly David Luiz is a player the Blues value, after all they only purchased the 25 year old 18 months ago and the Brazilian has become something of a cult hero with the Stamford Bridge faithful. However there is a possibility that Roberto Di Matteo is indeed unhappy with the Benfica man over his behaviour and there are of course four players vying for two spots.
Whilst Chelsea have on occasion played with three central defenders in the main they have opted for a back four and with a right-back signing reportedly on his way that would leave David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry and Gary Cahill fighting for two spots, therefore if a side made an offer of over £30m for a potential back-up player then could such a bid be one the West London side would consider?
Luiz has at times lacked positional sense but on the whole has impressed with his wholehearted displays and the Brazilian international has racked up 52 appearances since his £24m move to Chelsea in January 2011.
