Olympic star close to United or Liverpool switch.
Mexican starlet Hector Herrera is set for a move to the Premier League after holding talks with Manchester United and Liverpool, according to his club Pachua.
The bustingly central midfielder caught the eye at this summer’s Olympics, featuring in every match as Mexico claimed an unlikely Gold medal.
Pachua sporting director Andres Fassi has confirmed that the 22-year-old has held talks with Premier League rivals United and Liverpool but is still hopeful of convincing the midfielder star to stay.
‘There is official interest but there’s nothing else to add at this time. We have a document,’ Fassi is quoted as saying by the Metro.
‘We know he’s going to emigrate to England. Manchester United and Liverpool have talked to us.’
‘We want him to continue with Pachuca. But when he decides to leave, the club will give him the opportunity to do so.’
Herrera is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in South America, claiming the Rookie of the Year award for his performances for Pachuca in the Apertura tournament last year.
And the opportunity to move to Europe is one the player himself says he would relish.
‘If given the opportunity to emigrate to European football, of course I’d go but I have wait to see what the club officials say’, Herrera told the Mexican press.
‘I did not expect it so soon, I did not expect these big clubs to be tracking me after such a short time, but this is the result of the sacrifices I have made.’
Herrera is expected to meet with Pachuca over the weekend to discuss his future.
