Speedy full-back joins Standard Liege.
Former Manchester United defender Ezekiel Fryers has signed a two-year contract with Belgian club Standard Liege.
The 19-year-old, whose deal with the Red Devils expired in June, made his senior debut for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side last September in a Carling Cup tie.
Fryers went on to make a further five appearances for United but has now moved to Standard after catching their eye a couple of years ago.
“We spotted Ezekiel two years ago at an elite tournament where England and Belgium participated,” sporting director Jean-Francois de Sart told the club’s official website.
“We have followed him since. He was out of contract with Manchester United and it was a great opportunity we could not miss.”

Well that came out of the blue! The last we heard, Ezekiel Fryers was training with Tottenham, awaiting a tribunal to decide his transfer fee ahead of a move from Manchester to north London.
Now the 19-year-old left-back has turned up at Standard Liege. It seems a strange move for Fryers but the youngster is reportedly fiercely ambitious and left Old Trafford because Sir Alex Ferguson understandably couldn’t promise him first team football.
The move suggest that Standard have offer the flying full-back, described by Ferguson as ‘greased lightning’ after his debut last season, first team football while Tottenham and United have not.
It will be interesting to see how Fryers does in Belgium. Clearly he will be playing in an inferior league but if it’s playing time he’s interested in, then he may have made a very sensible decision.
