Craven Cottage side angry with Anfield outfit’s behaviour.
Fulham have made a formal complaint to the Premier League over Liverpool’s pursuit of Clint Dempsey.
The Cottagers are believed to have taken exception to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers revealing in July that Liverpool had made an enquiry about buying the 29-year-old forward.
Rodgers’ comments followed an embarrassing incident in which a website run by the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group published a story claiming Dempsey was already a Liverpool player.
Asked about the story last month, Rodgers said: “Clint is a player we’ve enquired about, it is as simple as that.”
Fulham appear to believe Rodgers’ actions have led to a situation whereby the USA international has refused to play for the west London club as he hopes to engineer a move to Anfield.
But manager Martin Jol claimed last week that no formal offer had been received – leaving club and player in limbo.
“Clint feels he needs a move and that move was probably Liverpool, but Liverpool bought new players and no Clint, so we have ended up with a situation with Clint here at Fulham, but he is not committed to the club.”
The Premier League is still investigating the complaint, according to a statement released on Thursday.

There’s no denying that Clint Dempsey wants to leave Fulham but the argument that the American’s attitude has in some way been detrimentally effected by Liverpool’s apparent interest may not be a fair.
Arguably Dempsey’s desire to leave Craven Cottage pre-dates any interest, real or imagined, from the Anfield side. It is perhaps frustrating for the 29 year old Texan to be under the impression that a club wants you, only to be told that said club hasn’t actually put in an offer for your services. However this is probably not a wholly unusual situation.
Fulham can’t accuse of Liverpool adopting hugely underhanded practices to unsettle Dempsey, to state an interest in a player is fairly standard practice, though it is perhaps odd for that club to not then register an offer. Perhaps it is that lack of an offer that angers the West London club.
Clint Dempsey may well feel he has outgrown Fulham and at this stage in his career feels the time is right to move on, perhaps Martin Jol is happy to consider offers for the player, will any side actually make one?
The United States international produced the best form of his career last season, netting 23 goals in all competitions.
