Pardew would be delighted to re-sign striker.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted he would love to bring Liverpool’s Andy Carroll back to St James’ Park.
The hulking striker joined the Reds for £35m from Newcastle 18 months ago but has struggled to make an impact at Anfield and is unfancied by new boss Brendan Rodgers.
West Ham had a loan bid accepted for Carroll last month but it is understood that the 23-year-old will only leave Merseyside to return to Newcastle.
Rodgers is reluctant to send Carroll on loan to Tyneside for nothing and described the Toon’s opening offer for Carroll, a free loan move, as ‘a liberty’.
But with the transfer window set to close in 5 days, Newcastle are reportedly considering a fresh £17m bid for the England international.
Pardew is keen on the deal but has admitted it rests with the Newcastle board.
“That is above me that deal, it is a financial deal that will be done at board level if Liverpool agree,” Pardew is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“If I was saying on a playing level would I like him in the squad, of course I would he would add a nice dimension to us.”
