Saints agree deal for Ramirez.
Saints have at last reached an agreement with Bologna for Gaston Ramirez, according to various reports in Italy.
The clubs are said to be close to finalising a €14m deal, which would see the 21-year-old forward become the most expensive player in Saints history.
Negotiations appeared to have broken down last week, with Bologna indicating their demands had not been met.
However, it is being reported that talks began again over the weekend, with Saints tabling an acceptable offer in principle.
The deal will reportedly see Saints pay Serie A side Bologna €14m, while Ramirez’s former club Penarol, who own 30 per cent of the player, will be given 30 per cent of any future sale.

We would love it if Southampton can clinch the deal of Uruguayan star Gaston Ramirez. The 21-year-old is big talent and has been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Inter Milan this summer.
But the south coast outfit are close to completing a £12m move and clearly the playmaker fancies a move to St Mary’s. And he could well prove the difference between relegation and survival.
Ramirez is technically brilliant, a great set-piece taker with an eye for a pass, who is not afraid to shoot from distance. If he impresses in an advanced midfield role, comparisons will naturally be drawn with former Saints legend Matt Le Tissier.
Boss Nigel Adkins must feel that he has enough squad depth to cope with the rigours of a Premier League campaign but adding a superstar, rather than a number of solid stalwarts, is a risky move. Fortune favours the brave and we hope it comes off.
