Agent says loan could still happen, despite player’s tweet.
QPR midfielder Joey Barton could still join Marseille on loan, according to his agent Willie Mackay.
Barton had earlier tweeted: “Doesn’t look like this Marseille thing is going to happen now.”
But Mackay says a swap deal involving Barton and Marseille defender Stephane Mbia could be completed as soon as Wednesday.
“I think you will find that maybe a deal will happen tomorrow with Joey flying out to Marseille and Stephane Mbia will arrive at QPR,” he told the BBC.
Social network-addict Barton had earlier revealed via twitter that Hoops boss Mark Hughes had lost faith in him, stressing that he wanted to move to the Ligue 1 club.
“Hopefully QPR and Marseille can finalise the deal in the next few days,” the former Manchester City and Newcastle player said. “My heart is already in the Velodrome.”
The 29-year-old Liverpudlian has endured a turbulent summer, which has seen him stripped of the club captaincy and excluded form the R’s pre-season tour of Malaysia – during which time he trained with League Two Fleetwood Town.
It follows Barton’s sending off on the final day of last season and subsequent 12-match ban (now 10), for a violent attack on Man City trio Carlos Tevez, Sergio Augero and Vincent Kompany.
