Emirates Stadium boss looks to trim deadwood from Gunners squad.
Arsene Wenger will reportedly look to finally offload a collection of players he has little need for as he looks to balance the books before the transfer window slams shut.
Whilst the Gunners boss will be looking to secure funds from the sales of these five under-performing Arsenal players it is almost as important to rid the club’s wage bill of their salaries and therefore Wenger could be set to consider cut-price offers in the search of quick sales today.
Andrei Arshavin did not join Arsenal on their Asian tour and that appears to have signaled the death knell to the Russian’s Arsenal career. A number of Premier League sides are said to be keen on the 31 year old who may well elect to stay in the Premier League given that his family have settled in England.
Fulham are said to be in prime position to land the winger, who is also being chased by former club Zenit St Petersburg. Though Wenger spent a club record £15m on Arshavin he is reportedly willing to accept half that fee this summer.
Following an impressive Euro 2008 Arshavin was touted as one of the best players in Europe but his three and a half years at Arsenal have seen more lows than highs, though his four goal haul at Anfield will long be remembered.
Zenit may well be the side most likely to make a decent offer that Wenger would accept.
