Toffees keen on Birmingham City youngster.

Sky Sports understands that Everton are in talks with Birmingham over a last ditch deal to sign goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The 19-year-old, who spent last season on-loan at League Two Cheltenham, shot to prominence after being called up by England boss Roy Hodgson for Euro 2012.

The Bristol-born youngster has been earmarked by Blues boss Lee Clark as his number one this season and he has started all three of their league games so far.

However, Sky Sports understands Everton boss David Moyes is keen to bring the young shot-stopper to Merseyside.

It is believed the Toffees have made an offer in the region of £6million for Butland, to be paid in instalments.

Given that Birmingham City have stood firm in the face of much interest in Jack Butland and that fact that the England international has started all the club’s Championship matches thus far, it would therefore be odd if the St Andrews’ side then opted to consider offers for the teenager.

Butland is considered one of the hottest prospects in English football and having made Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad and then impressed at the 2012 Olympics with Team GB, the 19 year old went on to land his first full senior cap as well as earn his first Birmingham City appearances this summer.

Everton have done well to bring in a number of quality additions this summer, with the likes of Kevin Mirallas, Steven Naismith and Steven Pienaar all moving to Goodison Park, and there may well be spare funds available from the £12m sale of Jack Rodwell to use to lure Butland if indeed he is made available by Birmingham City.

33 year old keeper Tim Howard has been relatively unchallenged since his arrival at the club back in the summer of 2006, a loan move that was made permanent, and the American has only missed two Premier League matches in six seasons so perhaps the addition of the young England man could help keep the former Man United man on his toes.
