Centre-back heads to France, while Barton nears Marseille switch.
Marseille centre-back Stephane Mbia is en route to London to finalise a late move to QPR, with Joey Barton likely to head the other way.
QPR have been linked with a move for Mbia for some time and boss Mark Hughes is confident of getting his man before Friday’s deadline.
“He is en route as we speak. Hopefully we will get him in to a medical quite quickly,” Hughes is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“We hope to conclude the deal very quickly,” said manager Mark Hughes.
“He has the type of flexibility – he can play in midfield or defence – that I like in a player.
“He is en route as we speak,” Hughes added.
“Hopefully we will get him in to a medical quite quickly.
“A lot of discussion has taken place in terms of (his) contract and expectations from both sides so that’s pretty much been concluded,” the Welshman added.
“So once we get through the medical hopefully we will be able to conclude the deal very quickly.
“He is another player that can play in a couple of positions. I like that flexibility in players. He is a good age, and we have paid a good price for him.”
Barton’s move to the Ligue 1 club is dependent on Mbia joining the Hoops’, according to Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo.
“The arrival of Barton is conditional on the transfer of Mbia. It would be a permanent transfer (Mbia) for a loan (Barton),” Anigo told the club’s official website.
“If we sign Joey Barton it does not mean that the transfer window is over for us. There may be other arrivals. “
It is understood that QPR have ended their pursuit of Tottenham’s Michael Dawson. The R’s had agreed a £9m fee with Spurs for the centre-half but turned their attentions to Mbia after failing to agree personal terms with the 28-year-old.
