Spurs hope to snare Spaniard at eleventh hour.
Tottenham are hoping to pull over a major coup by landing Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente before the transfer window slams shut at midnight on Friday, reports the Times.
The north Londoners have been tracking the Spanish international for some time and it is understood that they are willing to meet Bilbao’s £15m asking price.
Llorente has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Basque club and has made it clear he wants to leave Sam Mames this summer.
The powerful forward was holding out for a move to a Champions League club but a move to Serie A Champions Juventus broke down and, with his options running out, the Spaniard may well opt to move to White Hart Lane.
The 27-year-old’s wages will prove the biggest issue for Spurs to resolve, with Tottenham reportedly unwilling to pay more than £90,000 a week but Llorente currently one of Bilbao’s top earners on more than £100,000.
If Spurs can pull off the late transfer, it will prove one of the biggest shocks of the summer transfer window and prove that chairman Daniel Levy’s risky tactic of leaving his business to the final day, can occasionally pay off.
