Fenerbahce ‘in talks with Chelsea over Raul Meireles transfer’
Raul Meireles could be on his way out of Chelsea after Fenerbahce expressed a strong interest in signing the midfielder.
Meireles is top of Yildirim’s list of targets and he has apparently already opened negotiations with Chelsea about the Portugal international.
Talks are at an advanced stage and Fenerbahce officials are confident of getting their man, reports Turkish newspaper Vatan.
A ‘pre-agreement’ is said to have been reached between the two clubs, with the only issue still to be decided the exact fee.
There had been a great deal of speculation that Raul Meireles may follow former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas to Tottenham over the summer but such a move never came to fruition but it does seem plausible that the Portuguese international could still leave Stamford Bridge, especially as the Turkish transfer window is still open.
Meireles has been a bit part player thus far this season, coming on as sub in the first two encounters before starting Chelsea’s win over Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool man is one of many fighting for a midfield berth and at 29 appears to be some way down the queue and a move to Fenerbahce may well tempt the former FC Porto and Liverpool man.
