A in-depth analysis of the comings and goings at Anfield this summer.
Joe Allen (£15m from Swansea)
Spending £1m less on Joe Allen than Arsenal paid for Santi Cazorla seems a little batty and some will suggest that Brendan Rodgers has not learnt from Kenny Dalglish’s mistake of paying over the odds for British talent. That said, young Welshman Allen likes to keep the ball – a valuable characteristic – and is a fine passer.
In fact, last season Allen was the sixth most successful passer in Europe, only behind the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Sergio Busquets, and if the 22-year-old can improve other areas of his game at Anfield, his price tag could begin to look like a bargain.
