Spurs eyeing Brazilian after Mout snub.
Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attentions to Santos midfielder Ganso – a long-term target for neighbours Arsenal – after missing out on Joao Moutino.
Brazil international Ganso is available for just £8m but, as with Moutinho, the deal is likely to be complicated by complex third-party ownership, reports the Daily Mirror.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is desperate to add fresh creativity to his side following the departures of Rafa van der Vaart and Luka Modric this summer, but missed out on compatriot Moutinho on deadline day.
Tottenham had agreed a £25m fee with the 25-year-old’s club Porto but issues with personal terms and third-party rights prevented the deal being completed before the 11pm cut-off.
Villas-Boas is still keen to bolster centre midfield and may now consider Ganso as a cheaper option.
The playmaker broke into the Brazilian national side as a teenager but has since slipped behind Chelsea’s Oscar and others in the pecking order.
Spurs bitter north London rivals Arsenal have long-admired Ganso and considered a move for the Brazilian last month.
It is understood that Spurs could face competition from Brazilian clubs Sao Paulo and Fluminense for his signature in January.
