Blues join Real Madrid and Man United in hunt for Belgian’s signature.
Chelsea have joined Real Madrid and Manchester United in the race for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, after the Belgian admitted he could leave Goodison Park before the end of the season.
Fellaini has established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League and has impressed during Everton’s strong start to the new season, scoring against United in the Toffees’ opening match.
United and Real considered bids for the 24-year-old this summer but both chose to pursue other targets, with United landing Shinji Kagawa and Real signing Spurs’ Luka Modric.
But the duo’s interest has been rekindled after Fellaini admitted that his five-year stint on Merseyside could end as soon as January.
And it is understood that Chelsea are the latest superpower to express an interest in Fellaini. The Blues are short in central midfield, with 34-year-old Frank Lampard nearing the end of his career and Michael Essien on loan at Real.
The European Champions are thought to be preparing a January bid in the region of £20m for Fellaini and are prepared to go head-t0-head with the Old Trafford club and the Spanish giants in a bidding war.
Everton are reluctant to lose their prized-asset but the thrifty Merseysiders will probably allow the Belgium international to leave for a fee in excess of £25m.
