City eyeing Spurs stopper.
Manchester City are considering a shock swoop for Tottenham centre-half Michael Dawson, it has emerged.
It is understood that the Champions enquired about the availability of the centre-back on transfer deadline day but, despite encouragement from Tottenham, decided against bidding because of concerns about the size of their squad.
But City are continuing to monitor Dawson’s situation and may bid for the 28-year-old in January.
Dawson has been told he is fifth-choice centre-back at White Hart Lane and has not featured in the squad for any of the Londoners’ opening three league games of the new season.
Spurs accepted a £8m bid from QPR for the former Nottingham Forest stopper last month but Dawson was reluctant to leave Spurs and failed to agree personal terms with Mark Hughes’ side.
With Kolo Toure likely to leave the Etihad in January, City boss Roberto Mancini is keen to add a new centre-half to his ranks and is an admirer of Dawson.
The Italian did sign Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic on transfer deadline day but believes the young Serbian will not be ready for first-team football until next season.
Spurs are willing to offload Dawson, who is behind the likes of Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and William Gallas in the pecking order, and it is thought the player would welcome a move to Eastlands.
