Diaby out with suspect muscle strain.
Arsenal’s early season optimism has taken a blow after Abou Diaby was ruled out of action through injury.
The France midfielder had been one of the stars of the Gunners’ solid start to the season, and backed that up with a match-winning performance in his country’s opening World Cup qualifier against Finland.
France manager Didier Deschamps said: ‘Diaby took a bad shot and he has muscular discomfort. He is not free in his movements.’

The news that Abou Diaby is injured once again is more significant for Arsenal than it is for France.
While Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps can call on a number of possible replacements for the lanky midfielder, Arsenal are lacking in the holding midfield department.
The Frenchman has been one of the shining lights of the Gunners’ decent start to the season but, after selling Alex Song to Barcelona and missing out on Nuri Sahin, the club are relying on Diaby to stay fit at least until January.
The 26-year-old was outstanding in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Liverpool, most of his best moments coming from powerful runs from deep into the opposition half, and the performance drew comparisons between Diaby and Man City’s Yaya Toure.
But without Diaby, Arsene Wenger side’s suddenly look lightweight and lacking in a genuine ball-winner. Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta and co. are fabulous at passing and holding on to possession but these qualities become redundant without someone like Diaby to win the ball and drive forward.
Last year, Diaby’s season was constantly interrupted with injury lay-offs. This term, it is imperative for both Arsenal and himself that he stays fit; this is not a good start.
