Russians not interested in signing ‘sad’ superstar.
Anzhi Makhachkala are not interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Russians’ sporting director, Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos.
Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid after admitting he was ‘sad’ about certain aspects of life at the Bernebeu.
The Portuguese superstar is reportedly unhappy at not being offered a pay rise since joining the club and is aggrieved that he is currently on the same salary as unwanted Brazilian Kaka.
Very few clubs in the world could afford Ronaldo but mega-rich Anzhi – who have lured the likes of Carlos, Samuel Eto’o and Lassana Diarra, all formerly of Real, to eastern Europe in recent seasons – are one of them.
Speculation increased further when Carlos, who spent 11 years at Real as a player, visited the La Liga Champions’ training ground over the weekend.
But the Brazilian says he does not expect the club to sign Ronaldo, although he is helpful of landing other top-quality signings in the near future.
“Lots of people have asked me that,” Carlos told AS when asked about signing Ronaldo. “We haven’t come to sign Cristiano. We are, however, thinking about signing some quality players for next season.
“Cristiano shouldn’t worry, people like him a lot. Problems can be resolved.”
