Gunners to move for powerful defender.
Arsenal have identified Manchester City’s £15m-rated Micah Richards as the man to replace right-back Bacary Sagna, it has emerged.
Manchester City have lured some of Arsenal’s best players to the Etihad in recent seasons, signing defenders Kolo Toure and Gael Clichy, midfielder Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Adebayor from north London in the past four years.
But in a strange role reversal, it is understood that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign City defender Richards to replace unsettled French international Sagna.
The 24-year-old is yet to feature this season for the the Champions, after picking up an injury during the Olympics with Team GB.
City have brought in Brazilian Maicon and also have Pablo Zabaleta on their books and it is understood that Wenger is hopeful a £15m bid will persuade to Eastlands outfit to part company with Richards.
Sagna, meanwhile, is looking increasingly likely to leave north London in January, after Wenger admitted the unhappy star could be sold in the new year.
City would be reluctant to let Richards leave but its understood that the player is desperate for regular first team football in order to boost his chances of playing for England and will consider a move to the Emirates.
