White Hart Lane keen on Serie A duo.
Reports in Italy claim that Tottenham failed with a double raid on Lazio for Hernanes and Miroslav Klose.
It is claimed Spurs tried to lure both players from Rome over the course of the summer.
Italian sources claim Spurs were ready to pay €15million for Brazilian international midfielder Hernanes – but neither the player or Laziowere keen.
German veteran Klose, 34, claims Tottenham made an approach for him – but he wants to see out the remaining two-years of his contract.
“Tottenham came looking for me, but I signed for Lazio until 2014 and I intend to respect that contract,” he told Sportal.it.
Klose insists he stayed as he is very happy to work under coach Vladimir Petkovic.
“Petkovic is one of the greats. The Scudetto will be difficult, but I can’t yet say how far we will go.”
Tottenham were perhaps linked with moves to sign somewhere in the region of a hundred players over the summer and though it does seem that a number of moves to capture genuine targets fell through, overall Andre Villas-Boas can be relatively happy with his summer of transfer dealings.
At one point it was looking eminently possible that the North London club would be left with just one senior recognised striker, Jermain Defoe, but the White Hart Lane side secured a deal to make the temporary move for Emmanuel Adebayor a permanent one and then on deadline day the icing on the cake was a £6m deal to sign US forward Clint Dempsey.
Therefore one can assume that moves to snap up Lazio forward Miroslav Klose came early on in the transfer window but the German seems very settled in Serie A and his first season in Rome has proven hugely successful with the 34 year old netting 16 goals in all competitions and has already scored three goals this term.
In a similar vain interest in Hernanes could well pre-date the signing of Moussa Dembele, who himself was seemingly a secondary option as Andre Villas-Boas seemed to have his heart set on a move to bring in his former FC Porto charge Joao Moutinho, a deal that fell through late in the transfer window.
Though Tottenham have not started the current campaign all that well, two points from three matches, Andre Villas-Boas’s squad is arguably an improvement on the one that was in place when Harry Redknapp was axed.
Though Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart left the club the additions of the aforementioned Dempsey, Adebayor and Dembele along with fellow summer signings Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris do give Tottenham a great deal of strength in depth.
