Gunners boss not being drawn on speculation over former-Chelsea front man.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has moved to play down reports linking him with making a move for former-Chelsea star Didier Drogba.
The Ivorian striker left Chelsea in the summer after 8 years with the London side for the lure Shanghai Shenua to link up once again with former teammate Nicolas Anelka, who is now assistant manager as well as a player for the side.
After Drogba starred for Chelsea in their victorious Champions League campaign last season the club did not renew the 34-year-old striker’s deal and he opted to join up with his friend Anelka.
However, rifts between the club’s main money backer and other directors could see the club forced to offload their two former Premier League stars, with both on astronomical wages, and this news has seen speculation mount that Arsene Wenger will now move to bring Drogba back to the Premier League.
With Robin Van Persie departed and new-boy Olivier Giroud so far failing to look the part, the acquisition of a proven Premier League goalscorer in Drogba would certainly be a coup, but it remains to be seen whether Wenger could pull it off, financially, given the likely wage demands of the player, or otherwise, according to Metro.
While Wenger has moved to cool links between himself and the player he could yet step in with an audacious offer if his striker worries persist in a move to ensure the club is again competing for the top four.
