Emirates Stadium side keen on St James’ Park forward.
Arsenal are reportedly looking to launch a January bid for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba as Arsene Wenger looks to beef up his attacking options.
The Gunners boss will look to take advantage of reports that the Senegal international is unhappy with the role he has been used in since the arrival of national team compatriot Papiss Cisse in January.
The former West Ham man had been scoring regularly for the Magpies up until Cisse arrived, netting 15 goals in 19 Premier League matches, but in an unfamiliar wide attacking role the 27 year old managed just one in the final 15 matches of last term. He was consigned to the bench for Newcastle United’s trip to Everton last night, after an uninspiring start to the campaign, but came on to score twice at Goodison Park.
Ba’s agent Alex Gontran has sparked talk of a possible exit by stating
“Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Demba doesn’t understand the management, If he continues to be a substitute all season, we’ll look at other solutions.”
There was a great deal of speculation about the Newcastle United striker’s future over the summer with reports that prospective suitors could have snapped up the prolific marksman for just £7m due to a clause in the player’s contract, a clause that has now expired.
This would mean that Arsenal would have to make a bid far in excess of that figure in order to tempt Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley into selling Demba Ba.
Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in further attacking options having seen Robin Van Persie leave for Man United.
Though the North London club brought in Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud the Arsenal manager feels he needs to beef up his options, and not just because the French international forward, who arrived from Montpellier in the summer is yet to make an impact.
The Gunners do not have a great many alternative options and Arsene Wenger will look to his board to finance a significant bid for the Newcastle United forward.
