‘Keeper’s girlfriend let her feelings known after boyfriend dropped for Premier League clash.
The girlfriend of Reading Goalkeeper Adam Federici used Twitter to launch a scathing attack on Reading FC after the ‘keeper was dropped for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Reading boss Brian McDermott chose to drop the Australian after a string of mistakes in the first games of the season against Stoke City and Chelsea, instead selecting 22-year-old Alex McCarthy to start between the sticks in what was his Premier League debut, reports the MailOnline.
Micaela Gardner, Federici’s girlfriend, responded to the news that he had been dropped by tweeting: “Football has left me feeling totally numb and empty inside! For once I have NO explanation! #noloyalty #absolutejoke”.
“Unbelievable!!! You need thick skin for success!!”
McCarthy made some good early saves in the game but Defoe broke the deadlock on 18 minutes and Spurs went on to win the game 3-1.
However, McCarthy cannot feel too disappointed with his first Premier League start against a top opposition and he will be hoping he can keep his spot for Reading’s game away to West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
The youngster has revealed he has aspirations to play for England one day and hopes that this can be the start of a long-spell in the first-team to help him build towards that goal.
