Portuguese insists he wasn’t interested in German.
Tottenham head-coach Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that he was never tempted to sign German veteran Miroslav Klose.
The 34-year-old Lazio striker claims that he rejected to join the Londoners this summer, in favour of remaining in Rome.
But Villas-Boas, whose side face the Italians in their Europa League opener on Thursday night, says Spurs were never interested in signing the powerful forward.
He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “The player had been offered to us by the usual round of agents, but there was never any real negotiation.
“Klose is an important player, but I have very good strikers. With [Jermain] Defoe, [Emmanuel] Adebayor and [Clint] Dempsey I can feel comfortable.”
Spurs head into their midweek European clash off the back of a 3-1 win at Reading on Sunday – their first of the Premier League campaign – but Villas-Boas remains cautious of Vladimir Petkovic’s men.
“With Lazio it will be a difficult match,” he added. “They have important players such as Ledesma, who is one of my favourite players.
“Then there’s Hernanes. I expected him to find a top club (in the summer) and instead Lazio have done well to keep him.”
