Serie A club keen on the 21-year-old full-back.
Italian side Roma are hoping to wrap up a deal for Newcastle United defender Davide Santon in January.
The Serie A outfit were eying up the former Inter Milan player in the summer, with Roma’s director of football, Walter Sabatini, understood to be a big admirer of the full-back.
They are poised to make a move for him in the winter transfer window and believe an offer in the region of £9m would be enough to tempt Newcastle into selling the young Italian.
Santon signed for Newcastle on a 5-year contract from Inter last summer for a fee of around £5m but only managed 19 Premier League starts last term, according to talkSPORT.
However, he has begun the new season as first choice in Alan Pardew’s side and the Magpies boss will be reluctant to let the 21-year-old, who looks set for a bright future at the top, leave the club.
Roma also have their eye on French full-back Mathieu Debuchy – a player Newcastle were desperate to land in the summer – and it would be ironic if they were to be rebuffed by Newcastle over Santon only to sign Debuchy in January instead.
