Germans monitoring England star’s situation.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have emerged as surprise contenders for the signature of Arsenal contract-rebel Theo Walcott.
Walcott is stalling on signing a new deal at the Emirates Stadium and, with boss Arsene Wenger growing increasingly frustrated, the 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
Wenger has hinted that Walcott could be left on the bench until his contract situation is resolved one way or the other, with 19-year-old Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain currently keeping him out of the team for both club and country.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a big admirer of Walcott and enquired about the availability of the England star this summer.
It is understood that Rodgers is interested in signing the former Southampton man in January or next summer but will face competition from Bayern.
The German outfit are keeping tabs on Walcott’s situation and are understood to be ready to bid £14m for the speedster in January.
Bayern want Walcott as competition for wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery and believe his directness could be a major weapon in the Bundesliga.
It is thought that Wenger would be much more comfortable selling Walcott abroad, rather than strengthening a direct competitor, and the player is also thought to be interested in the prospect of playing overseas.
The unlikely deal could be completed in January, as Walcott’s contract expires next summer and Arsenal are reluctant to lose him for nothing in the close-season.
