Old Trafford side keen on Craven Cottage centre-back.
According to Italian source CalcioMercato Man United are reportedly considering a move to sign Fulham contract rebel Brede Hangeland.
The 31 year old US born Norwegian international is in the final year of his contract and seemingly no nearer to agreeing a new deal and this has led to speculation that the giant centre back could be available on the cheap in the January transfer window.
Sir Alex Ferguson may well feel the need to consider making a move to strengthen his defensive options given the injury crisis he finds himself. Both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have been out for some time and Serbian international Nemanja Vidic has now been ruled out for eight weeks following knee surgery.
The two recognised centre-backs who are currently fit, Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand, have both experienced injury concerns over the past year and therefore Ferguson may feel a move to bring in an experienced option, and perhaps more importantly, a player who rarely suffers with time out with injury, one he must consider.
The fact that Man United could land Hangeland for a relatively small fee will also appeal to the Old Trafford boss as he looks for a medium term solution.
The Fulham defender has been a virtual ever present since his move to Craven Cottage in January 2008, since when he has amassed 212 appearances for the West London side.
