Anfield side line up move for Parkhead goal machine.
Liverpool are reportedly readying a January move to sign Celtic striker Gary Hooper as Brendan Rodgers looks to beef up his attacking options. The 24 year old former Scunthorpe United man has been a big hit since his move to Parkhead two years ago and Bhoys boss Neil Lennon is keen to tie the marksman to a new long term contract but may struggle to do so if a bid from the Anfield side is forthcoming.
Hooper netted 22 goals in his first season in Scotland and fired in 29 last term to help Celtic to an SPL title and he is a player Lennon will fight to keep hold of. There has been talk of a potential England call-up for the Harlow born striker and clearly a high-profile move South of the Border would help in pursuit of international recognition.
Rodgers has been left with just Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as recognised senior strikers and must look to youngsters like Adam Morgan to make an impact. The Liverpool boss may look to recall Andy Carroll from his loan spell at West Ham in January but is said to be looking for the Merseyside club’s board to provide funds to remedy the situation when the transfer window re-opens.
Liverpool are said to be ready to offer around £6m for the Celtic man and will hope that a genuine show of interest will persuade Hooper to push for a move to the Premier League side.
