Stamford Bridge side to offer attacker in exchange for Emirates Stadium contract rebel.
Chelsea are reportedly readying an offer for Arsenal winger Theo Walcott that would involve Blues attacker Daniel Sturridge making a move in the opposite direction.
The West London side have set their sights on the Gunners contract rebel and are said to be ready to make an offer to sign the 23 year old England man either in a straight deal with an offer of around £12m on the table but are also open to the exchange of players.
Arsenal are sticking to their guns in relation to Walcott’s contractual demands and are not going to budge and this could lead to the inevitable sale of the former Southampton man in January or his free transfer exit in the summer, something the Emirates Stadium’s prudent board are not willing to see happen.
This is not the first time such a deal has been mooted, last February such a move was planned by then boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Walcott has upped his game in recent weeks, making telling contributions when coming on from the bench he has been consigned to due to his contract talks stalling. However for most of his six and a half year spell at the North London club he has proved very inconsistent and the emergence of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the presence of other possible wide attacking options including Gervinho, Lukas Podolski and youngster Ryo Miyaichi means that Arsenal are ready to sell.
Daniel Sturridge’s Chelsea career is beginning to stagnate with the former Man City man managing just 31 minutes of Premier League football thus far this season as Roberto Di Matteo persists with ineffective Spaniard Fernando Torres.
The 23 year old Birmingham born attacker may well be open to a move across London and the adaptability of the England international may appeal to Wenger.
