Etihad Stadium side willing to offer Stamford Bridge defender three year contract.
Man City boss Roberto Mancini is reportedly readying a move to offer Chelsea veteran Ashley Cole a pre-contract deal in January ahead of an attempt to land the England international on a free transfer when his Stamford Bridge contract comes to an end.
The 31 year old defender is unhappy about the offer of only a one year extension, which is now Blues club policy in relation to player’s over the age of 30, and Mancini is looking to step in with a three year offer that he hopes will lure the former Arsenal man into moving to the Etihad Stadium.
Ashley Cole has been in ongoing talks with Chelsea over a new deal for a number of months but is no nearer to agreeing terms and this had led to speculation that a number of prospective suitors are ready to register their interest in the experienced left-back in January, when the talented wide-man would be free to sign a pre-contract deal.
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking to bring Cole to big spending Ligue 1 side PSG but a move to Man City may tempt the full-back.
Mancini has this season shared left-back duties between Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov but is thought to be a big admirer of Ashley Cole and would like to pull of a coup by luring the Chelsea man to Man City.
Though just a few months from his 32nd birthday Cole is still very sharp and is still considered one of the best full-backs in the business and Mancini would like to further strengthen his push for major honours by signing the Champions League winner, especially given the fact he can snap up a player of such quality on a free transfer, which would leave more scope for an attractive salary offer.
