Italian source CalcioMercato today reports that London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal are both eyeing up moves for French international Yann M’Vila.

The young Rennes enforcer has been linked with a move away from his Ligue 1 side for the best part of 18 months but as yet has failed to secure a departure the he appears to be keen on securing. The 22 year old defensive midfielder had reportedly moved very close to securing a move to Arsenal over the summer.

Having helped his side to a top six finish last term M’Vila has seen Rennes struggle for form during the current campaign and this may be fueling further moves to cement a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal’s interest in the Amiens born powerhouse but one wonders where exactly Chelsea would fit M’Vila into their ever expanding squad. The West London side already has a huge number of central midfielders and the likes of John Obi Mikel, Ramires and Oriol Romeu all have the ability to offer the steely presence Roberto Di Matteo would be looking to garner from the capture of the French youngster.

Arsene Wenger on the other hand would appear to have even more need for a player of M’Vila’s skill set than previously, given that the North London club elected to sell Alex Song to Barcelona over the summer.

The Gunners are having to count on Mikel Arteta to put in a defensive midfield shift that he is perhaps not best suited for. Abou Diaby is also on hand to offer support but one can see why Wenger would covet a player such as Yann M’Vila.
