Old Trafford side to launch move for St James’ Park enforcer.
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will look to lure Newcastle United enforcer Cheick Tiote to Old Trafford in January as he looks to add more steel to his squad.
Ferguson lacks an out and out defensive midfielder and has done ever since Owen Hargreaves suffered the first of many injuries some years back. Chieck Tiote could be just the man for the job as Man United have missed a steely presence in the centre of the park and the Ivory Coast international has more than proved himself at Premier League level following his move from FC Twente.
The 26 year old has been a consistent performer in Alan Pardew’s Magpies side and is a player the Newcastle United boss would be loathed to lose but if a decent offer is made then St James’ Park owner Mike Ashley may well elect to cash in on a player who only cost the North-East side £3.5m.
Ferguson will have been worried about the way in which his side has been performing thus far this term and whilst a great deal of responsibility for the club’s shaky start lies at the feet of the Man United defence the Scot will be concerned at the ease the opposition has managed to brush past his midfield.
The Man United manager is therefore looking for a strong enforcer to help prevent his side from being overrun. Thus far this term his side has conceded nine goals in six Premier League matches.
