Old Trafford side eyeing up Parkhead midfielder.
Check-In to Barcelona v Real Madrid
Manchester United are weighing up a January move for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s brother Martin – who works as one of United’s team of scouts – has watched Wanyama several times this season.
United are in the market for a defensive midfielder and Kenya international Wanyama is one of the names on their radar following his impressive form north of the border.
Martin Ferguson has watched him in Celtic’s Champions League games this season, to assess his merits against stronger opposition than he meets in the Scottish Premier League.
Celtic would want around £10million for their midfield enforcer, who can also play in defence, but United feel they could land him for around £7m.

Manchester United could well do with an enforcer style midfielder, the type of which the Old Trafford side have not really had since Owen Hargreaves’s career was derailed by persistent injuries. However one may wonder if the Celtic man is up for the task, having only had one season of SPL action to adequately judge his abilities.
The Kenyan midfielder has impressed since his move to Parkhead and Neil Lennon will not want to lose the 21 year old, however if an offer of £10m was made then the Glasgow side may have to consider accepting it given they only forked out £900k for the Nairobi born youngster a little over a year ago.
This source speculates that Man United also have their eye on Newcastle United’s Cheick Tiote and that seems a far more likely option for Sir Alex Ferguson to pursue. The Magpies man has been a consistent performer ever since his £3.5m move from FC Twente to St James’ Park two years ago.
Ferguson will certainly feel the need to bring in a tough tackling defensive midfielder having seen his side cut apart on a number of occasions and the fact that Man United have conceded nine goals in six Premier League matches owes as much to the lack of bite in the midfield as it does to poor defending.
