Liverpool are reportedly tracking Palermo playmaker Josip Ilicic according to CalcioMercato.
The talented Slovenian is the latest in a long line of Serie A talents that appear to have gotten the attention of Brendan Rodgers as he look to add more strength in depth to his stuttering Liverpool squad.
Ilicic is in his third season at Sicilian side Palermo and has been an undoubted success in Italy helping his side to qualify for a Europa League berth in his first team at the Stadio Renzo Barbera. However last term didn’t fare so well with the Eagles finishing just above the relegation zone, form that could encourage the 24 year old to consider a new challenge.
This term has seen Palermo lose four of their first five matches of the season and led to Giuseppe Sannino being replaced by former Inter Milan boss Gian Piero Gasperini.
Liverpool could well do with extra creativity in their midfield and a move for Ilicic could be both a cost-effective one to consider.
With Steven Gerrard in the latter stages of his career there could well be a need for a new addition to help drive the midfield along and Ilicic could be an option in this regard.
