City boss wants to sign Falcao and Isco.
Manchester City have joined Chelsea and Real Madrid in the race for £35m Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, while the Champions are also tracking Malaga playmaker Isco.
Citizens boss Roberto Mancini watched as Falcao scored his eighth goal in six matches to help Atletico beat Isco’s Malaga side 2-1.
The Colombian is valued at around £35m and Spanish daily AS reports that Mancini is ready to go head-to-head with Chelsea and Real in the battle for his signature.
Meanwhile, the Italian is also interested in 20-year-old playmaker Isco, according to Andalucian paper El Desmarque de Malaga.
The youngster has dazzled in his club’s two Champions League games this season and has a release clause of just £17m.
Mancini claimed he was in Spain to check-up on the progress of on-loan Malaga striker Roque Santa Cruz – who scored on his first start for the club – but it has long been understood that the Paraguayan has no future at the Etihad, making the excuse seem questionable.
The Italian did concede that Isco was a fine player, however.
“I am here to see Santa Cruz. They are two squads with great players – it is a very interesting game,” Mancini said. “[Isco] is a good player and young.”
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has admitted that Falcao will be sold if Atletico fail to secure Champions League qualification but was reacted about Macnini’s presence, joking that the Italian was probably in Madrid to look for a new house.
But Falcao has hinted he would like to play in the Premier League one day.
“England? One day, I could go. It is a game I have watched for a long time and one day I would like to sample it,” Falcao said.
“I used to watch it on television when I was a kid. Players like Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, [Gianfranco] Zola. But the one I supported was [Faustino] Asprilla, when he was at Newcastle.”
Malaga, who sold star players including Santi Cazorla to Arsenal last summer to raise money to pay debts, have previously said Isco was not for sale.
“Coaches have to watch many games and many players, and both teams have interesting players,” Malaga executive Antonio Benitez said.
