Emirates Stadium side ready to launch January move for Schalke forward.

Check-In to Norwich City v Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a January bid for Schalke forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as Arsene Wenger looks to make the most of the fact that the Dutch international is in the final year of his contract and will be available for a reduced fee.

The 29 year old striker has been in great form over the past 18 months but seems ready to move on having seen his strike partner Raul leave the Gelsenkirchen side for Saudi Arabian side Al Sadd in the summer.

The Gunners boss is keen to boost his club’s firepower having all but given up on back-up forward Marouane Chamakh and seemingly likely to look for permanent departures for loaned out forwards Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu-Young who are currently on season long loan spells at Juventus and Celta Vigo respectively.

Indeed the only two recognised senior forwards that Wenger has any intention of using are new additions Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski and as such is looking for further strength in depth up front.

Huntelaar netted an astonishing 48 goals in 47 matches in all competitions last term and has four this term and could well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

The former Ajax man struggled at Real Madrid and AC Milan before re-igniting his career in the Bundesliga.
