Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly interested in Man City pair James Milner and John Guidetti.

The Anfield side may feel that they the Etihad Stadium duo could be open to a move to the Merseyside club with the promise of the prospect of regular first team football. Roberto Mancini may also be ready to consider offers for players as he looks to balance the books and reduce the size of his squad especially given now that UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines are starting to kick-in.

26 year old England regular James Milner has become something of a utility man for Man City and despite the fact that he cost the Premier League title holders £26m just over two years ago the former Aston Villa, Leeds United and Newcastle United man is beginning to appear surplus to requirements.

The determined midfielder has started just two of the club’s seven Premier League matches to date and is a player that Rodgers hopes to bring to Anfield though wouldn’t be able to offer anywhere near the fee Man City paid for the player.

However given that Mancini was open to selling a player such as Emmanuel Adebayor for just £5.5m then perhaps such a move wouldn’t cost such a gigantic sum. Milner is one of three England men in the Man City squad who have less than two years to run on their deals but as yet not been handed new offers, the other two players being Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott.

Brendan Rodgers has also taken an interest in young Swedish international John Guidetti who is having little luck in forcing his way into the Man City first team picture due to the presence of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 20 year old had a standout season last term on loan at Feyenoord, netting 20 goals in 23 Eredivisie matches but is now wasting away in the Man City reserves, unable to even find a spot on the first team bench.

Despite this it is clear that the Stockholm born striker has the potential to be a big success and Rodgers can at least offer Guidetti a fighting chance to prove himself in the English top tier. Liverpool have just two recognised senior strikers, Luis Suarez & Fabio Borini, and the former Swansea City boss is keen to lure the youngster to Anfield.
