Davids to join Barnet.

So…Dutch legend Edgar Davids, who won countless trophies during spells with Juventus, Internazionale and Ajax and is considered by some to be the catalyst for the success of the current Barcelona squad, after a stunning loan spell at the Nou Camp during 2004, has joined…Barnet.

The North London club, who are rooted to the bottom of the Football League, report that Davids could make his debut within a fortnight and will assist struggling boss Mark Robson at Roots Hall.

The Bees director of football Paul Fairclough was naturally delighted to have the bespectacled midfielder on board, saying: “The capture of Davids is a statement of intent by our club to improve results and lay further foundations for the future.

“Edgar is a world-renowned footballer and will be a great example to all our young players.”

Davids said: “I’m happy to explore my possibilities and share my knowledge and experience with Barnet.

“I am very excited about the challenge ahead.”

Davids, nicknamed the “Pitball” on account of his tenacious style of play faces a tough ask helping Barnet turn their season around. The Bees are yet to win a game this season and have just 3 points from their opening 11 fixtures. Yikes: not even Harry “2 points from 8 games” Redknapp could turn that kind of season around, surely?

Davids’ arrival at Barnet follows a brief spell at Crystal Palace, in which the 39-year-old played just six games at left-back with limited success, suggesting he either has a London-based love interest or just loves life in the lower leagues.

We wish the former Tottenham star the best of luck.
