Emirates Stadium side target Bayer Leverkusen youngster.
Arsenal are reportedly taking a genuine interest in Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in January additions to boost the club’s firepower.
The North London club have been monitoring the 21 year old’s progress since the beginning of the season, a mission that was sparked after Wenger was impressed by his performance against Greece at the Euro 2012 finals. The former Mainz man has proven less prolific since his move to the BayArena but has drawn a great deal of admiration for his adaptable attacking displays.
Schurrle can play in a number of attacking roles from an orthodox striking position as well as operating on the flanks and was the subject of two bids from Chelsea over the summer.
Wenger is keen to bring in another attacking option as currently he is hamstrung by the lack of quality back-up alternatives to summer signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, who has experienced contrasting fortunes since their moves to the Emirates Stadium.
Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh is set for a January exit if any side makes a decent offer for the 28 year old flop and the Gunners boss has already loaned out Nicklas Bendtner, Park Chu-Young and youngster Joel Campbell on season long temporary deals.
Arsenal will look to make a significant offer for Schurrle, who cost Bayer Leverkusen £6.5m 14 months ago. The rangy forward has saved most effective displays for the German national team, netting seven goals in 18 appearances for Die Mannschaft.
