Check-In to Liverpool v Reading

Celtic’s Gary Hooper is a Liverpool target as Brendan Rodgers aims to add another forward to his squad in January.
The Reds are in the middle of a striking crisis at the moment with Luis Suarez being the only fit option at the club.

Fabio Borini broke his foot with Italy U21s earlier this week and Andy Carroll is on loan at West Ham.
According to talkSPORT Hooper’s Celtic contract talks have broken down which leaves Liverpool in a good position as they look to pick up the 24-year-old.

Even prior to Fabio Borini’s injury the Italian had failed to make an impact in the English top tier and left Brendan Rodgers with a very threabare Anfield attack.

24 year old former Scunthorpe United man Hooper has been a big hit since his move to Parkhead two years ago and Bhoys boss Neil Lennon is keen to tie the marksman to a new long term contract but may struggle to do so if a bid from the Anfield side is forthcoming.

Hooper netted 22 goals in his first season in Scotland and fired in 29 last term to help Celtic to an SPL title and he is a player Lennon will fight to keep hold of. There has been talk of a potential England call-up for the Harlow born striker and clearly a high-profile move South of the Border would help in pursuit of international recognition.

If indeed Gary Hooper is refusing to sign a new deal it may well be with a view to attracting interest in his services from prospective Premier League sides interested in his services.

Hooper has netted eight goals in 14 matches this term, including two in Champions League action.
